Pregnancy skin care routine!

I don’t think it is stressed enough how important it is to take care of your skin whilst you are pregnant. Aside from the obvious moisturising your belly to high heaven – it is equally as important to keep the rest of your body and face hydrated. When shopping for skin care products – it is crucial you check to see whether you are able to use them whilst pregnant (although most products now are safe to use)

My skin has been suffering the whole way through my pregnancy, from dry to irritated. Every morning after my bath/shower, I make sure I stick to the same routine. Firstly, I make sure my face gets the attention it so desperately needs, I am very prone to spots just lately! When washing my face with warm water, I use Clinique’s rinse-off foaming cleanser mousse.

This product is ‘Allergy Tested 100% fragrance free for normal skin’ I put a very very small amount of this onto the palm of my hands and massage it into my wet face, making sure I avoid my eyes and then I rinse it off thoroughly. This helps me wake up and leaves my skin feeling so soft, I love it.

The next step is my ever stretching tummy. I do apply a few different products on my bump so that I can get the best out of all three. So, first up I use Bio Oil.

I pour a manageable amount onto the palm of my hand and rub my hands together. Then I apply this all over my bump and around my hips as these are the places that will tend to get the most stretch marks. This sinks in so quickly and doesn’t feel sticky and wet afterwards which is great. There’s nothing worse than putting your clothes over sticky/wet skin!

Next, I apply Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil.

This product helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, dry, damage skin, uneven skin tone, ageing skin and fine lines and wrinkles (this can also be used on your face) first of all, it smells absolutely amazing and again it dries so quickly. I mainly use this on the top half of my body (chest area up) because I love the smell. I do make sure I apply this on my chest area mainly because that area is growing too!

Since being pregnant, my legs for some reason have been so itchy and irritated. I tried a lot of different products to try and stop the itching but the only thing I have found that works is Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion.

This was given to me by a friend and I am so glad she discovered it. It says on the bottle ;immediately relieves and moisturises the skin for 24 hours’ It has ‘naturally active triple oat complex for extra dry, irritable and sensitive skin. I only apply a little amount of this in the day because it does take a little while to dry but works almost instantly. My skin feels smooth and healthy and it stops the itching! It smells a little bit like porridge but it is 110% worth it.

Once my day is over and I am ready to go to bed, I remove my make up with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water.

You have probably seen this a million times before but it is honestly the best make up remover I have ever had. On the bottle, it does say ‘removes make-up + cleanses + soothes’ which I feel that it does. You can use it on your face. eyes and lips because it has no perfume. It also doesn’t make me break out unlike other make-up removers. I have repurchased this a couple of times now but the 400ml bottle definitely lasts a while.

I then use Clinique’s Clarifying lotion  after taking off my make-up.

I put a small amount of this onto a cotton wool pad and sweep it over my face and neck (avoiding my eyes) This helps my skin feel smooth and luxurious and also removes any extra dirt or make-up you have left on your face. I have been using this for a number of weeks now and I have definitely noticed the difference on my skin.

Before putting on my PJ’s, I use the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula for stretch marks.

I smother my belly, chest, hips and legs in this before sleeping to try and prevent stretch marks as much as I can. This is a very thick cream and does take a while to sink into the skin which is why I use this one before bed. It smells like coconut which is my favourite scent at the moment.

If you have any products that have helped prevent stretch marks or have helped them fade then please let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading,

Lots of love, Laura & Bump x
